NOTE: Twice in this short passage the Jews attempted either to stone Jesus, or to take Him. Is it His works that trigger these murderous intents? No, they say, but His blasphemous statement in their eyes - identifying Himself with God.

Then note His clear words concerning sheep and goats. Sheep hear and know His voice. The fact that Jewish leaders could not hear, proves they were notof His sheep, but were hirelings, with no real concern for the true sheep. Jesus says that the eternal life He gives His true sheep is irrevocable. Once true sheep are in His and the Father's hands, no onecan snatch them out. Did He mean this? Of course. And He and His Father being one, are well able to fulfill their promises.

Once Jesus was out of the area of the Jewish leaders - then the common people heard Him gladly - and believed. J.A.W.
